Editorial Policy

Our standards

This page exists because you should be able to judge whether to trust what you read here.

Sourcing

Technical claims are checked against manufacturer installation manuals, published capacity tables and industry standards. Where a figure is an estimate or a range drawn from field experience, we label it as such rather than presenting it as a measurement.

Review

Every article covering sizing, refrigerant, electrical work or safety is reviewed by a licensed HVAC technician before publication. Reviewed articles carry a line under the headline saying so.

Updates

Cost pages are reviewed at least twice a year. Rebate and incentive pages are reviewed whenever a programme changes. Every page shows the date it was last checked, not just the date it was first written.

Corrections

When we get something wrong we fix it and note the correction at the foot of the article. We do not quietly edit and pretend the error never happened.

Independence

No manufacturer, contractor or advertiser sees an article before publication or has any influence over its conclusions. Advertising and affiliate relationships are disclosed and are handled entirely separately from editorial decisions.

Limits

Nothing here is a substitute for a site visit by a licensed professional. We publish frameworks, ranges and questions to ask. Your house is specific, and only someone standing in it can give you a specific answer.
