Why this site exists
Most heat pump information online is written by someone who wants to sell you a heat pump. Manufacturer pages describe features. Contractor blogs describe why you should call them today. Neither answers the question a homeowner actually has, which is usually some version of “is this the right thing for my house, and what will it really cost me?”
HeatPumpWise exists to answer that question with numbers, trade-offs and the parts nobody volunteers.
How we work
- We do not sell, install or service equipment.
- Manufacturers do not pay for coverage, placement or favourable language.
- Technical content is checked against manufacturer documentation and reviewed by a licensed HVAC technician before publication.
- Price ranges are updated at least twice a year and dated on the page.
- When we do not know something, we say so instead of guessing.
Who writes it
Four people, each covering the part of this subject they actually know.
Marcus Reyes — costs and quotes
Nine years estimating residential HVAC replacements before moving to writing full time. He has walked several thousand basements, attics and crawl spaces, and has seen most of the ways a good system gets ruined by a bad installation. He writes the pricing guides and anything involving a contractor’s paperwork.
Dana Whitfield — how things work
A building science writer with a background in residential energy auditing. She handles the explainers, the cold-climate performance questions and the incentive programmes, on the principle that a homeowner who understands the physics asks far better questions of their installer.
Ellis Nakamura — equipment and sizing
Spent six years in manufacturer technical support, which means he has read more capacity tables than anyone should. He covers sizing, brand comparisons, controls and the specifications that actually differ between two units that look identical on a showroom floor.
Ray Ostrowski — diagnostics
A licensed HVAC technician still working in the field. He writes the troubleshooting and error code guides, and technically reviews everything the rest of us publish that touches refrigerant, electrical work or safety. If an article says it was reviewed, Ray is the one who reviewed it.
How we pay for it
Display advertising and affiliate commissions on products we recommend. Neither influences what we cover or what we conclude. If a product is not worth buying we say so, even when there is a commission attached to it.
